The Idea of Sweded Films

Sweded films are created with the intention to be comedic, as they fall into the spoof film genre.
Spoof: Noun-A humorous imitation of something. Verb-Imitate (something) while exaggerating it's characteristic features for comic effect.
Part of the comedic effect is achieved by the use of inexpensive/free, basic, and homemade props (e.g cardboard cut-outs for cityscapes) compared to the extensive efforts and funds for Hollywood sets and special effects. This puts humourous light on the dramatic contrast between the two.

Sweded films are intended to be fun for the audience to watch and the creators to make. The audience are actively involved because they can compare the sweded film to the original film, and the sweded films are light and relaxed which makes them fun to make. Sweded films are also very creative, as although the plot is not original and it is copied from the film its imitating, they are produced with in small groups and with no funds or complex equipment and props in comparison to non-sweded films.

Sweded Films is an online catalog of many sweded films, inspired by the 2008 film 'Be Kind Rewind', which can be rooted as the origin of sweding. The term 'sweded' is taken from the plot of the film; tapes from a video store are accidentally erased, and are remade using homemade props, no budget, and are passed off as from 'Sweden' when questioned. This film producers encourage its audience to create their own versions of sweded films, and are collectively uploaded to the 'Be Kind Rewind' YouTube channel.

Some of my favourite examples of sweded films from these websites are:

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Sweded

Edward Scissorhands Sweded

Titanic Sweded

I intend to create a sweded film which uses creative techniques such as the homemade props, costumes and camera tricks that I have researched, and be conventional to the sweded film genre; simple editing, no special effects or animations/transitions, digetic and human generated sound, and silliness.
